The most interesting Filipino films this year were not financed by studios. They were financed by audiences — by creators who spent five years building trust and then asked for two hundred pesos each.

What that buys is not scale. It is freedom: no notes, no test screenings, no mandate to soften an ending.

A crew of nine, a borrowed lens, and a script written on a night shift.

Six of those features are now on international festival slates. All six were cut by editors who learned their craft on YouTube.
